This led to the appearance of a hero named Pratihara "door-keeper" , who Vashistha placed on the road leading to the palace. After this, another hero named Chalukka appeared from the hollowed palm of Brahma. Finally, a third hero appeared, who sage named Pavara or Para-mara, "slayer of the enemy".

However, these three heroes were not able to stop the demons. Vashistha then dug up a new fire pit, and made yet another offering to the fire, to conjure a new hero.

The League® Series

This four-armed hero held a sword, a shield, a bow, and an arrow. Vashistha named him Chahavana, performed his coronation with Vedic hymns, and then ordered him to fight the demons. The sage also asked the goddess Ashapura to help the hero. Chahuhvana killed the demon Yantraketu, while the goddess killed the demon Dhumraketu. On seeing this, the other demons fled. Pleased with Chahuvana's bravery, the goddess agreed to be his family deity. Prithviraj Chauhan , the hero of Prithiviraj Raso , was born in this family. The Agnikula legend of Hammira Raso. Parashurama slaughtered Kshatriyas warriors 21 times.

The only escapees were those who disguised themselves as women, those who fled leaving behind their swords and those who fell at his feet. The absence of any warriors led to a dark age, where rakshasas demons increased in number, Vedas came to be trampled under feet, and Hinduism was forgotten. The sages then visited Parashurama's cave on Mount Abu.

Vashistha erected a fire altar and worshipped Shiva , who appeared before the sages. But the demons disrupted the ceremony by throwing impurities like blood, flesh and garbage on the altar. Twenty sages, including their leader Vashistha, then invoked Brahma and Shiva. They erected a new altar and conducted a fresh ceremony, singing hymns from the Sama Veda.

Following this, four sword-bearing warriors emerged from the fire pit, and defeated the demons. Parashurama and Shakti blessed the newly created heroes. Chohan, one of the heroes, was four-armed. The sage Bhrigu told him that he would be protected by the goddess Shakti in his endeavours to kill the demons. The goddess protected Chohan from all dangers: every time he fell at her feet, his strength doubled and he was able to slay the demons. The goddess came to be known as Ashapuri because she fulfilled the hopes "asha" of the sages. Historical biography in Indian literature.

This was a story of redemption, personal redemption and finding your own place in the world. Not living up to or down to the expectations of others but living your own life. Your own dreams and becoming the person you want to be. Just wonderful! Jan 07, Jonathan Wilson rated it it was amazing. Great edition to the series, couldn't put it down. Nov 14, Maria Itliong rated it it was amazing Shelves: re-read-books. I'm in love with The League series and I can't get enough I'm waiting for the next book to come out Now that I've read Jullien's story I did feel sorry for him for what he went through as a child and as an adult but in the end he found happiness and a family that cares I can't wait for Bastien Cabarro's story. Jun 23, AL rated it it was amazing.

I don't know what to say. Kenyon does it again. This was a remarkable book. It was not large enough in my opinion. I wanted it more. You would assume the book would start with when Jullien was just a child but it didn't. Rather we see glimpses of it and through Jullien's mind. From everything we learned from Born of Betrayal about him, Jullien is not someone who we thought he was but a different being. Running for his life after his grandmother put a Thrill-kill on him and exiled from his kingdo I don't know what to say.

Running for his life after his grandmother put a Thrill-kill on him and exiled from his kingdom, he stumbled into a bar and saw this kid being sold to a sex slavery. Saving that kid was his last thing to do before he died from the wound he was sporting. But what he wasn't expecting was the kid's mother to descend on him with her ships and crew to get her child back but also saved the man who saved her child, Vasili.

The kid took a liking to him immediately because of his humble action. From that moment on, we learned little to big things about Jullien's character and who he truly is. Misunderstood and abandoned since he was a child by his mother as his looks favored Edvard his uncle who almost killed his mother his mother abandoned him and hated him since he was an infant because of that. Jullien aka Dagger suffered in that palace as everyone treated him like a trash including his father, Aros.

Hurt and threatened and drugged by his cousins, he made bad decisions through his childhood and been manipulated by them that his action were seen as a evil when all he did was protect everyone from his grandmother and his cousins. In the present where he live with the Tivali, we learned, Jullien has a dry humor and gentle heart and very loveable.

The most hated man in the series became the most loved one in this book. Love how Ushara never betrayed or failed him and she always has his back no matter what. Jules became a closer with another Trisani, Thraix, who gave him the ability to connect his mind to his ship but that backfired as Jules got view spoiler [ powers and became a Trisani.

THE PESHTIGO FIRE (PT. 2 OF 2) Heroes, Legends, Histories & Mysteries podcast

Jullien have the Samari genes in him as well as a Stralen for his wife, Ushara Unira Samari, the last living member of Samari family immediately adopted Jullien as her son which was very heartful action as Jullien has never been accepted by his mother and father but Unira Samari and Ushara's family has accepted him fully.

I love the ending. After he rescued everyone and everyone forgave him, Jullien moved on and he forgot about his mother and father who never been a mother or father to him. He completely and finally got them out of his mind.

Data Protection Choices

I was so proud of him for that as his biological parents do not deserve him. I love Ushara's sister Mary who married Thraix as he is been suffering alone ever since Julia, his wife was murdered during the dark times for the Trisani. Julia was also Trajen, Nero and Hadrian's sister who apparently looks a bit like Ushara which explains why Trajen adores Ushara and her family and why Thraix couldn't deny Mary's bold advances as she favors more like her old sister Ushara and in return Julia. Thraix and Mary are expecting a son, Sphinx.

Can't wait to see them with their son. Happy to see Trajen having a best friend and a family. Trajen may have saved Jullien by allowing him to stay in his base but Jullien brought friendship and family into his somber life. This book was much fun to read even though I bawled my eyes out every time Jules got hurt and also what he went through. It's such an amazing story. Met interesting characters who reappeared like Bastien, Jupiter, Chayden, Mack, they were fun to read. The war will not stop until Kyr is put down. I can't wait to read the next book! I hope it's soon and fast as I had an amazing time reading this one.

I am always amazed how Sherrilyn Kenyon can take the most monstrous seeming character and turn everything around so they are then the hero. I now see Julian as my favorite character out of all the others. The way every single family member treated him since birth is just horrifying, but then to have to see them again after he was starting to heal just made me cringe throughout the book. My favorite parts were his time with his Tavali family. Ushara is such an amazing woman What an amazing story. Ushara is such an amazing woman to see past the mask he wears to protect himself and to see the intelligent and tender man beneath is such a beautiful thing.

His ability to connect with children after having such a traumatic childhood is pretty wonderful too. It continued to shock me when he would show such wisdom and forgiveness with people and their stupidity. There are lots of surprises and thrills and I wish it didn't have to end.

He did not have the good life I thought he did. Glad he finally got his revenge against his grandmother. Also glad that his other family members were finally able to hear the truth. Hope he will be able to have a long and happy life with Ushara. Wonder when the war will start. Can't wait to read Born of Vengeance!!!! Well Ms. Kenyon, you've done it again. You have made a villain into a hero once again. I love the hell out of Julien and every other darn character in this book - Trejan, Thrace, Ushara.

I wish I could give this 10 stars!!! I was surprisingly entertained by this doorstopper of a book, considering that its protagonist was the formerly evil, cowardly, repulsive Prince Julian, the evil twin brother of still my favorite League hero Nykyrian from Born of Night.

Prior to this book, Julian was best known for trying to get Nyk horribly tortured as a child, having Nyk's soulmate Kiara kidnapped by a homicidal psycho, attempting to have another awesome good guy protagonist Talyn from Born of Defiance mutilated and murd I was surprisingly entertained by this doorstopper of a book, considering that its protagonist was the formerly evil, cowardly, repulsive Prince Julian, the evil twin brother of still my favorite League hero Nykyrian from Born of Night.

Prior to this book, Julian was best known for trying to get Nyk horribly tortured as a child, having Nyk's soulmate Kiara kidnapped by a homicidal psycho, attempting to have another awesome good guy protagonist Talyn from Born of Defiance mutilated and murdered on a penal colony, etc etc. Suffice it to say, even with his surprisingly cool appearance at the end of Born of Betrayal, my interest in him as a protagonist approached zero Kelvin. But hey, I am a sucker for Kenyon's space opera romance series, so I opted to give it a try. After what felt like about a million pages later I did mention this book is massive.

You can kill a burglar with it , I had to eat crow - I really really liked it. Kenyon seems to have a thing for redeeming evil twins of noble heroes first Styxx, and now here , but she carries it off surprisingly well. There are plenty of adventures, space pirates, make-outs, palace infiltrations etc.

Julian 2. This said, I really wish she'd let the bad guys stay bad. Or at least redeem them, and not do the whole 'he was a woobie all along' thing.

  • Children of Fire (The Chaos Born, Book One)?
  • a heroes legend born of fire book 1 Manual!
  • The Legend of the Fifth Sun;

It worked very well in Styxx but doesn't work quite so well here. Mainly because to turn Julian from a spoiled royal darling into some sort of alien Oliver Twist, she has to twist previous storylines like a pretzel Okaaaaaay and destroy a whole bunch of previously decent characters by turning them into monsters not Okaaaaay. Styxx worked for me in a 'evil nemesis was actually noble hero' way because, since the series is fantasy, Kenyon only had to turn the previously 'good sister to Ash' Ryssa into a total bitch to Styxx, which I didn't care for but could reluctantly buy.

The rest could be explained away by gods' meddling and magic and drugs - the established narrative remained pretty intact. The League series is space opera so no gods meddling or magic can handwave things. So, in order to justify Julian and make him a typical "you do know people with that sort of upbringing do not turn into suffering saints but into incurable psychotics" Kenyon hero , Kenyon had to portray a lot of previously positive characters in ridiculous ways. Did you know that Julian's parents weren't loving though occasionally ill from grief individuals but horrific abusers who should be on Court TV?

We never got a hint of that from any of the past books but here it is Especially egregious was the treatment of his mother who, for no reason given, adored Nyk and hated Julian.

Agnivansha

They were both children of the dude she loved, and the whole 'Julian looked like an evil dead relative' just made me laugh, especially since Kenyon went overboard with the whole 'and she never even held him once' stuff OMGWTF. Nyk's aunt is also evil, and the awesome Galene heroine of Born of Betrayal is apparently a selfish, blind bitch. Did I mention that as a child, Nyk was apparently a Bad Seed? Oh, and Kiara was a mean girl in school.

Here's a hint - when you have to deform a lot of your previous characters to explain away one, maybe you should go with a different theory. I would have loved it if Julian was a horrible person who slowly reformed after being kicked out. Or if Nyk was a good brother as a kid and his Mom was fine until she lost one of her children after which she couldn't be anyone's mother. But nah, if you did that, Julian wouldn't be the sufferingest League hero ever well, almost ever. Nothing can ever beat Darling. So ultimately, the book was a great adventure and I liked the OTP a lot, but in order to enjoy it, I had to pretend to forget the previous books very very hard, so a star is subtracted.

It looks like she's set to redeem Kyr. Oh God, no. He is not redeemable. At this point, I am just happy the dreadful Anatole cousins are dead or she'd try to redeem them as well. I need a Nero book before I die of old age. I read this while we moved to our new home and even with the interruptions and stress, I still kept going. AND it was super long - much longer than my usual read.

The fact that I continued to be enthralled is a testament to Ms. Kenyon's writing and storytelling. Jan 08, Alison Petitt rated it it was amazing.

I'm pretty sure I forgot to even eat dinner. There are books series out there where every book that comes out next is somehow even better than the one before it, and The League series is one of those. Just when I think things can't be even more awesome, Sherri whips out another story to knock my socks off.

In short, this book is awesomeness incarnate and if you haven't read it yet, I would highly recommend it. So what are you waiting for? Go read it! Go, go!
