The chatty format makes it easy to read, example scenarios are given and discussed, relevant quotes from the Bible reinforce the message and guidance and there are discussion questions at the ends of chapters which will make the reader think and could provoke some great conversations.
I know quite a few girls who would benefit from reading this book - some to help them cope with the unkindness of others and others to help them become kinder and more caring as they grow up. I believe parents, close relatives or anyone working with or supporting in any way a teenage girl would also find this a very useful book to share with her. I could also imagine this book being shared by girls in a Bible study group, with sisters or friends.
Unfortunately, I also think the very Christian nature of the text may put some people off. Thanks to the author, publishers and NetGalley, too, for letting me read an ARC in exchange for an honest review. May 10, Jill rated it it was amazing. Here you go. I want to give it to every girl I know and maybe their moms too. It is really that good. I believe if I had had someone share these truths with me at those impressionable ages I would have been less of a befuddled young woman.
I knew I believed in and loved God and Jesus, but sometimes transferring that belief in them to how to conduct myself wasn't always clear. Knowing truths and perspective on popularity, confidence, reputation, interacting with bits, self-worship, perseverance, patience, image, inner beauty, and self-talk would have been helpful then but my goodness it is still helpful now. The self-talk section is applicable for every woman, every mother.
The honest and empowering talk about interacting with boys is a talk each girl should have with a mentor or parent they know loves them. Two of my favorite passages from the conclusion are, "Far too often in life, we let fear hold us back. Like my daughter stuck at the second monkey bar, we venture no further than what feels safe. We look too far ahead, counting the obstacles between us and our goal, and get sick to our stomach. And as our self-doubt kicks in, past failures come to mind.
We ant to quit already because we think we've reached our limit Oct 28, Debbie rated it it was amazing Shelves: ya , christian , amazon-vine , non-fiction. Her underlying, basic premise is that "The [ultimate] purpose of life is to know, love, and serve the Lord. I felt that she had a good grasp on what girls face these days in terms of social "10 Ultimate Truths Girls Should Know" is a Christian living book for teens and tweens. I felt that she had a good grasp on what girls face these days in terms of social pressures and what they're being told by advertising and their peers.
She tries to help girls think long-term to see the results of following "the crowd" versus doing what the Bible says is right. She never says it will be easy. For example, she says that every girl has unique talents and is "born to fly," but she also makes it clear that you need to take the time and effort to develop that talent. Her advice really does work when you take the long-term view. For example, "kindness is more important than popularity.
I went with kind, and it wasn't always easy, but the author is right that kindness results in the real, lasting friendships. Overall, I'd highly recommend this excellent book to teen and tween girls and to parents who want help with how to say these things clearly. I received this review copy from the publisher through Amazon Vine.
Sep 29, Valerie Williams rated it it was amazing Shelves: sprituality , favorites , family-life , non-fiction , parenting. I can not say enough good things about this book. Forcing me to decide exactly what ideals I actually DO want to pass on to my daughter. She has been reading this on her own and we are I can not say enough good things about this book.
She has been reading this on her own and we are discussing it at times that feel natural. It is really enhancing our chat times and hasn't been awkward at all. I think this is crucial for moms of girls, and would also be very beneficial for teachers and youth leaders. The neat thing is that I also learned a few more things for myself. Ideas about friendships aren't for teens alone.
Make sure you have your own copy so that you can write, highlight and underline to your heart's content. Jul 31, Janka H. But I can take some of the wisdom now even - yes, now as a woman I am a bit wiser, but most of the truths still apply and, honestly, sometimes I feel the people hasn't change that much from the high school times, including me.
The authoress obviously get young women. The book is both inspirational and practical, sharing Biblical wisdom and hard-learned truths in a very engaging and refreshingly honest way. It feels like talking to your trusted friend, the one bit older and definitely wiser, with whom you can share the questions and situations, and whom you know to respect you and honor you with loving, truthful advice.
Kari offers 10 truths on popularity, confidence, reputation, interacting with boys, self-worship, perseverance, patience, image, inner beauty, and self-talk. These truths work well to invite the girls to build their lives on God and to better understand the process of walking with Him, while still living in the world and facing the real situations like mean girls, beauty struggles and boyfriend-related issues.

All opinions came from me. Here goes the book review! I like the background but the contrast, I think is too much. Anyways, as for the description.. Here goes the review about the content. This is my fave part to be honest!!! My most favorite part of the book was the Triple Filter Test. Apr 28, Jo rated it it was ok Shelves: christian , young-adult. I have mixed feelings about this book. On the one hand, I think the selection of issues is relevant to many teens and young ladies, and much of the advice was very sound. I appreciated her handling of this t I have mixed feelings about this book.
I appreciated her handling of this topic because it seemed to deal with more heart issues, and the chapter modeled how to apply Scripture to different struggles we might go through. I could see this being a good jumping-off point for discussions — again, I think the topics are very relevant — but I think it would be helpful to go a little deeper.
May 06, Kathryn Zebrowski-Wray rated it it was amazing. A beautiful book that reinforces the positive things young girls can do to make navigating the passage of elementary and middle school a little easier. Each section is well written, and easy for kids to understand. The scenarios that Kampakis gives are situations that I think every girl has had to deal with at least once in her life that goes for adults too! Girls will be able to go back and reread the passage that best describes their situation to regain confidence if it starts to falter.
Thi A beautiful book that reinforces the positive things young girls can do to make navigating the passage of elementary and middle school a little easier. This book was a joy to read! I received a digital copy of this book through the publisher via NetGalley to give an unbiased review. Jul 07, Macie Smith rated it did not like it. This book left a lot to be desired. The author said almost nothing about salvation and the Holy Spirit's work in your life- seemed like she was just assuming that whoever read the book was a Christian. Also, some of her hypothetical scenarios were downright laughable.
If you think everyone reading is Christian already- and presumably has a mother who cares enough to give them this book- do you seriously think they're going to be 'out on the town' or luring boys with their short shorts? This isn' This book left a lot to be desired.
This isn't to say that Kari didn't have some good things to say- she definitely did. But she said one too many iffy things that gave me pause, and that's why I give this one star. Oct 18, Betsy rated it really liked it Shelves: I received a copy of this e-book in return for my honest review.
All opinions are my own. Being a mother to three girls, this book really jumped out at me. In fact, I plan on buying a copy to read to them as they get older. This book definitely has a spiritual focus to it which was perfect for me. I want to raise my girls to be strong, beautiful christian women, inside and out. This boo I received a copy of this e-book in return for my honest review. This book is an excellent tool for me to help them as they grow. Apr 10, Lindsay Jane rated it it was amazing. Since the book is from the point of view from the author, a mother of 4 girls, she gives us incidents and stories from her young life that often relate to all girls.
She gives us advice about boys and popularity and how they should never be the center of your universe. God should. I really loved this book and since I am a teen and my life can sometimes be events of roller coaster rides, I really rela "10 Ultimate Truths Girls Should Know" gives very good spiritual advice to all young teen girls.
